10 year plans

Right, when I started art college circa 1990, we had an 'icebreaking' session in which we were all asked to write down what we wanted to achieve by ten years time.

Most of what I predicted for myself has actually transpired, albeit in a macrocosmic stylee (I don't run a *globally* dominating media arts company and I don't have much time left to direct a Star Wars film)

Since I'm probably amongst the elders who probably don't even want to consider the prospect of the next ten years, I was just wondering what some of the younger members are aspiring to achieve within, say, the next ten years.

to create a piece of work, beit musical or film, that makes an impact on at least one person...to produce something that makes something think 'oh god, ican relate to that...there ARE other people out there like me...'

Plans like that don't work, ten years ago when I was thirteen I wanted to be a ghostbuster! It never happened. Things change, its the snowball effect and ten years is a long hill to roll down if you move slightly off course. But shit, I'll take into account the wind resistance in time space terms and go for.... an astronought.

To establish 5YLAC as a major player in the Motion Industry and New Media wave which will be old media by then

on a more personal level,

in three years i want a palm d'or
in 5 years time i want another one so i will have bookends

and in ten years time something to prop up the coffe table :-)

I figure, in ten years i just want to be out of college... be on my way to my black belt in jiu-jitsu... have written and produced at least one feature film/video... have trained in improv at Second City...

Yeah, that's about it.

I don't think my desires are too extravagant really. I mean, it's not like I'm asking for success or anything crazy like that!

In 10 years (I'm 19 now), I want to have created a body of work (feature films) and have some sort of cult audience. Not fame, just the knowledge that there is a small group of individuals who are down with what I'm doing.

I also want to be writing on a regular basis as a critic & contributing writer for magazines like Fangoria or Rue Morgue. Maybe also have written a couple of books of film criticism on the works of my favourite filmmakers.

I hope to be married to my sweetie, Shannon and to be planning a family.
